According to a report by Dutch outlet Soccer News, Gustavo Hamer is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a dynamic midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Sheffield United mainstay has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.
The Brazil-born midfielder is keen on embarking on an adventure in the summer transfer window. However, Leeds United will have no chance at securing Hamer’s services, as he does not want to join the West Yorkshire outfit or Burnley. While the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have been pursuing the player’s signature for some time, the negotiations “have not progressed smoothly”.
Gustavo Hamer has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the EFL Championship in the last 12 months. The Itajai native spent his formative years in the Netherlands, passing through the academies at RKVV Meerburg Zoeterwoude and ADO Den Haag before graduating from the youth division at Feyenoord.
The 27-year-old has been with Sheffield United since August 2023, but he was exceptional in the 2024/25 season. Hamer contributed to 18 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net ten times and providing eight assists. In addition, he has earned a spot in the EFL Championship Team of the Season while being Sheffield United’s Player of the Year.
The former Dutch youth international’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing Hamer, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Leeds United’s interest in Gustavo Hamer is understandable. The Whites are scouring the market for a midfielder this summer as Daniel Farke looks for Premier League-ready players. While the Whites have already signed Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff, Hamer will bolster creativity from the left flank.
However, a summer move to Elland Road will not see the light of day, even though the 28-year-old Brazil-born midfielder is keen on embarking on an adventure in the Premier League. Hamer has no interest in joining Leeds United or Burnley, with negotiations with the former not progressing smoothly. So, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners must look elsewhere for a new midfielder this summer.
