According to a report by Africa Foot, Issouf Sissokho is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder next year. So, the 23-year-old Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder has emerged as a target for the West Yorkshire outfit.
Issouf Sissokho has made significant progress since joining Maccabi Tel Aviv from Girondins Bordeaux last year. A native of Bamako, the African midfielder spent his formative years in Mali, passing through the youth division at CFC Daoula Bamako before graduating from Derby Académie.
However, the 23-year-old cut his teeth as a senior footballer during his spell with Girondins Bordeaux, spending a few years with the beleaguered French outfit. Sissokho has come leaps and bounds in the last 12 months, becoming a regular for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The Malian international has made over 50 appearances thus far for Maccabi Tel Aviv while chipping in with three assists. Meanwhile, Sissokho’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. A move to the Premier League may be on the cards, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Leeds United’s interest in Issouf Sissokho is surprising. The West Yorkshire outfit heavily bolstered the midfield unit in the summer transfer window by signing Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff. Meanwhile, Ethan Ampadu has bounced back from his fitness issues to become a regular for Leeds United this season.
Nevertheless, several midfielders, including Piotr Zielinski, have emerged on Leeds United’s radar, with Sissokho being the newly promoted Premier League club’s latest target. The Whites are also keeping an eye on players in England, with Gustavo Hamer one of their top targets.
As for the move for Sissokho, the 23-year-old Malian international will unlikely cost a bomb, considering he has gone under the radar in his career thus far. However, the African midfielder will be more of a projection signing instead of someone who can hit the ground running. That makes him an appealing long-term target for the West Yorkshire outfit.
