Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho ended up joining Aston Villa on loan during the summer transfer window. Unfortunately, the move hasn’t really gone according to plan for him. With him struggling to make an impact, he has been linked with a return to Old Trafford mid-season.
But, according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Sancho will not be heading back to his parent club despite recent reports. There doesn’t seem to be a break clause in his contract, which means he will have to see out the season at Villa Park.
While speaking about the English international’s future, the transfer expert said: “I think he will see out the season at Villa.
“I don’t think there is a break clause in that loan deal that would allow him to return to United in January. So it does seem that Jadon Sancho will see out the season at Aston Villa.
“It’s not great that for any player to be brought on as a substitute and then to be taken off as well in the same game [against Man City on 26 October].
“But he has struggled to make an impact in the squad, there’s no getting away from that. We know what Unai Emery demands.”
After making a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho joined Manchester United in a big-money move back in the summer of 2021. While there were a lot of expectations for the 25-year-old, he failed to live up to them.
He eventually went down the pecking order and has been out on loan in recent seasons. While United were keen on getting him off their books, permanently during the summer, they could only manage to offload him on a temporary basis, as he ended up joining Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old hasn’t had the desired impact at Villa Park. He has been involved in a total of five games and has yet to contribute towards a goal. He had a very disappointing outing against Manchester City towards the end of October.
Sancho was introduced as a substitute in the first half, but after failing to make the most out of the opportunity, he was subbed off before the final 15 minutes of the game. The English international hasn’t been able to meet the demands of his manager, Unai Emery.
With him struggling to get going, multiple reports have linked him with a return to Old Trafford in the winter. However, O’Rourke has ruled out any such return to his parent club, as he believes there is no break clause in his contract.
Sancho is set to continue at Villa Park until the end of the season, and post that, he is expected to part ways with United next summer.
