According to Football Insider, Scott McTominay’s prospects of joining Tottenham in the coming period look unlikely. There are plenty of complications in any deal for the midfielder who has been interesting Spurs, as Thomas Frank might look at options to improve his side ahead of the January window.
Scott McTominay has been a revelation for Napoli since his move to the club in the summer of 2024. The Midfielder has since been transformed into a top star under Antonio Conte, and earned the player of the season accolade after winning the Serie A title as well as making the Ballon d’Or top 20.
He was instrumental to the Serie A champions last season and is already seen as one of their most important stars in the squad, if not the most. However, transfer talks have already begun making the rounds in the media, as there’s potential interest from some clubs from around.
McTominay seems to be happy at Napoli despite the emerging links, with one of the clubs being Tottenham. Thomas Frank still feels there’s plenty of scope for improvements in his squad ahead of future windows, and might even look at adding new players in January.
Midfield is an area the Danish manager wants to strengthen, and bring someone who adds some attacking impetus to this side. For instance, his current midfield dynamic could feel a bit rigid in some sense, and fails to add goals to the equation, something McTominay is revered for doing since moving to Italy.
The Ballon d’Or top 20 star could transform Tottenham’s midfield to a certain degree and add value that the team currently lacks. However, it won’t be easy to prise him away from Napoli and their plans, especially given the cost of signing the former Manchester United star.
Moreover, Napoli will demand a significant fee to even consider the prospects of selling him. Spurs do have big funds, but could they offer him the same importance as Napoli does in the current period? Hence, to sign McTominay, especially in January, it would be challenging for Tottenham, although a summer move could be something they can think about.
