Leeds United eyeing Haji Wright swoop

Leeds United may look to sign 27-year-old USMNT international Haji Wright from EFL Championship club Coventry City in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Haji Wright is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the winter transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Coventry City centre-forward has emerged as a target for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Several candidates, including Jean-Philippe Mateta, have also emerged on Leeds United’s radar. However, with Crystal Palace unwilling to entertain any bids to part ways with the French striker, the Whites must look elsewhere. So, Wright has emerged as a target for Leeds United, but he is not a priority target for the winter transfer window.

Haji Wright and his career so far

Haji Wright has established himself as one of the best strikers in the EFL Championship since joining Coventry City from Antalyaspor in August 2023. A native of Los Angeles, the American attacker has been a journeyman in his club career, representing clubs in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Turkiye before arriving in England.

Meanwhile, Wright has been hot off the blocks in the 2025/26 season, contributing to ten goals in 14 outings across all competitions by finding the back of the net nine times and providing one assist. The USMNT international’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Leeds United may be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Leeds United’s interest in Haji Wright is understandable. The Whites are scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window, even though they signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in bargain moves this past summer. However, neither striker has been prolific enough in the final third, compelling Leeds United to seek a January move for a striker.

Several strikers, including Chris Wood, have thus emerged on Leeds United’s radar, with Wright also a viable target. However, the 27-year-old American attacker is not a priority target for the West Yorkshire outfit.

So, it will be interesting to see who becomes Leeds United’s top target for the winter transfer window. However, if another striker does not rise in prominence on the wishlist, it will not be surprising to see Wright arriving at Elland Road in the coming weeks.
