FC Nantes have signed right-back Frédéric Guilbert (31) as a free agent, the Ligue 1 side has announced. The 31-year-old right-back could sign for any club he wishes following his contract termination with Serie A side US Lecce. Guilbert has signed a six-month deal with Ahmed Kantari’s Les Canaris, who have plunged to new depths following an appalling 4-1 home loss to OGC Nice on Sunday.

Guilbert hasn’t featured once this season with Lecce, despite a commandable return of 31 games the previous season. The former Aston Villa and Strasbourg right-back will be tasked to bring leadership and experience to a struggling 16th-placed Nantes side. Guilbert is the fifth player to join Nantes this winter after Deiver Machado, Rémy Cabella, Ibrahima Sissoko and Ali Youssif. Nantes play Lorient away this weekend.
