Despite being one of the mainstays at Newcastle United, Sandro Tonali has often been linked with a move away from the club. Thanks to his consistent performances, clubs from across Europe are after him. Recent reports linked him with a move to rivals Arsenal.
The North London club had reportedly approached the Tyneside club to discuss a potential transfer. But according to Keith Downie, Newcastle United have not been approached by Mikel Arteta’s team. They expect an offer from the Gunners, and even if one does arrive, the Magpies won’t entertain it.
After making a name for himself at AC Milan, Tonali joined Newcastle United in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth around £55 million. He has only gone from strength to strength over the years. A ban did sideline him for a while, but he bounced back in some fashion.
The former AC Milan mainstay is one of the first names on their team sheet under Eddie Howe. In the ongoing campaign, he has been involved in 35 matches and has even contributed towards five goals. While he still has well over two years left on his deal, Sandro Tonali has often been linked with a move away.
This time around, Sandro Tonali has been linked with a move to Premier League leaders Arsenal. The Gunners reportedly want to further bolster their squad by signing one of the best midfielders in England. Reports in Germany insist that the North London club are in talks to sign the 25-year-old. However, Downie has refuted these reports.
While speaking about Tonali’s future, the local Journalist said, “Newcastle have had no approach from Arsenal for Sandro Tonali, don’t expect one, and wouldn’t entertain one. Despite a WILD report in Germany, there has been no talks involving the sale of the midfielder this window. f #NUFC are unwilling to allow Willock to leave due to being light in midfield, the same (but stronger) message exists for Tonali, who has 3.5 years left on his deal.”
Downie has suggested there is nothing going on between the clubs regarding a winter transfer. Newcastle have no intentions of selling him anytime soon. The Tyneside club blocked Joe Willock’s exit as they were light in midfield, which means they certainly are not thinking about selling Tonali, irrespective of the offer on the table.
