According to Sky Sports, Crystal Palace have submitted a £20 million offer to sign Dwight McNeil, with Everton’s response yet to be recorded. The Eagles are angling for a late attacking signing tonight, as Everton’s capture of Tyrique George could pave the way for the former Burnley star to depart.
Crystal Palace have seen some late movements in the January window, and they are yet again on the road to get a late deal done. Oliver Glasner’s side have already signed Evann Guessand on loan from Aston Villa, and they are on the verge of completing a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen, although that agreement might be held up now, given Jean-Philippe Mateta failed his medicals ahead of a move to AC Milan.
Crystal Palace had sounded out a move for Dwight McNeil earlier today, as they sensed a chance from Everton to let the attacker leave on deadline day. McNeil is no longer a sure starter under David Moyes, as he has other players in the positions the former Burnley star plays.
Moreover, Everton are set to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea on loan with a purchase option, and the young winger’s arrival could potentially pave the way for McNeil to leave. Nottingham Forest had shown an interest in McNeil earlier, alongside Crystal Palace, with the Toffees indicating then that they may have to sign a replacement before letting him leave.
With that problem out of the way, Crystal Palace have submitted a £20 million offer for the signing of McNeil. It remains to be seen whether Everton accept the deal, and if they do, the Eagles could submit a signed deal sheet which which would give them time until 9 pm to complete the transfer.
McNeil could be a good addition to this Crystal Palace squad, who could make do with a new attacker as they have a long season ahead on multiple fronts. The South London outfit have good attacking players currently in the squad, and not anticipating a late departure, but they have been looking out for a new one for the last few days.
Any move for the 26-year-old Everton wide man may depend on the Toffees and their stance on the player, particularly now that they have signed George from Chelsea. A deal will be very late on deadline day, with Crystal Palace seemingly feeling they have matched Everton’s asking price.
