David Datro Fofana set to join RC Strasbourg as loan deal agreed

Chelsea flop David Datro Fofana is all set to join sister club RC Strasbourg on loan until the end of the season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, RC Strasbourg have struck a deal with Chelsea to sign the Ivorian striker on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. Since he was unlikely to have a prominent role at Stamford Bridge, another loan move could actually help the 23-year-old to fully revive his career.

Fofana’s sensational rise at Molde FK caught the attention of the London club, who secured his services at the start of 2023. Unfortunately, the move to the London club hasn’t worked out in his favour as he has struggled to cement his spot in the team and has often been out on loan.

He spent the first half of the season on loan at Turkish club Karagumruk. In his 15 appearances for the Super Lig outfit, he ended up finding the back of the net on eight occasions. While he was enjoying his stint, Chelsea decided to recall him in January, with a view to cashing in on him.

Fofana to join Strasbourg to cover for Emegha

However, they have decided against sanctioning his permanent departure and have instead decided to loan him out to sister club RC Strasbourg. Following an injury to skipper Emmanuel Emegha, the French club are in desperate need of a new striker, and the BlueCo believes Fofana could help their cause.

Despite interest from another French club and RCD Mallorca, Chelsea have decided against cashing in on him. Fofana has left Chelsea to complete his loan to move to Strasbourg. The deal is considered done as documents have been approved, and an official announcement is around the corner.

With Emegha unavailable for the coming weeks, Fofana will look to make the most out of the opportunities he gets. Consistent performances could certainly help get his career back on track. While reviving his Chelsea career won’t be that easy, he can certainly find a new home within the clubs owned by BlueCo.
