James Wilson set to join Tottenham as deal agreed

Tottenham are on the verge of beating Arsenal in the race to sign James Wilson from Hearts as they inch closer to an agreement.

According to The Daily Record, James Wilson could be set for a loan switch to Tottenham over Arsenal in the coming hours. The one-cap Scottish international has become the subject of intense interest from the North London giants, with Tottenham set to pip their rivals for the Hearts forward.

James Wilson has been a player of interest on deadline day, especially owing to early links to Arsenal. The story behind the Gunners’ interest came right after Mikel Merino suffered a serious injury that could see him miss the remainder of the season, although the Scottish star was not seen as a replacement.

Hearts forward, Wilson, has been down in the pecking order at the Scottish side, with at least four or five players ahead of him. Hence, he has spent most of the campaign watching on from the sidelines, which squarely pointed Arsenal’s keenness to sign him for their Under-21 side.

Arsenal initiated discussions with Hearts over a loan move, but things have not moved since with regard to a move. Tottenham entered the race for the 18-year-old Scottish wonderkid soon after, with suggestions in the report stating they are now close to signing the striker.

The report linking Spurs earlier stated the North Londoners are open to including a purchase option as part of the initial loan agreement. That part may have swayed the way for Tottemnham to get Wilson, as Arsenal seemingly refused to add a buy option of any sort.

James Wilson set for Spurs?

As per the report, Tottenham are set to pip Arsenal in the race for Wilson, with the buy option included in their deal proving sufficient to convince Hearts over a deal. Apart from this story, other sources are yet to confirm Tottenham’s chances of landing the 18-year-old Scottish wonderkid, but they might be close.

The sum of the buy option remains under wraps as things stand, but like Arsenal, Tottenham are also looking to gauge his talents while Wilson plays with the Under-21 side. For now, there is hope that Spurs will complete the deal in due time and well within the deadline.
