Former RC Lens and OGC Nice manager Franck Haise is expected to replace Habib Beye in the Roazhon Park dugout at Rennes, according to Ouest-France. Saturday’s 3-1 away defeat against 10-man Lens proved the final straw for the former Senegal international full-back. The outlet has confirmed RMC Sport’s previous report about his sacking. Beye has met with representatives of the club this morning to formalize the terms of his exit.
Beye was appointed Rennes head coach a year ago in taking over from Jorge Sampaoli, whose tenure only lasted weeks in Brittany. Since last week’s 3-0 away defeat to Coupe de France, reports emerged about simmering tensions between Beye and some of the more senior players, including Brice Samba. The France international goalkeeper was subsequently dropped for the Lens away game.
Samba and club president Arnaud Pouille are expected to be reunited with their former Lens head coach in Haise. The 54-year-old was a free agent following his exit from OGC Nice in December. Haise would return to Stade Rennais, where he worked as a youth coach. He could even be in the Roazhon Park dugout for Friday’s home Ligue 1 game against league leaders PSG.
