RB Leipzig head coach Ole Werner on the non-penalty call in their 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich: “It’s absolutely insane”

Speaking in the post-match press conference (via @iMiaSanMia), RB Leipzig head coach Ole Werner has reacted to the non-penalty call in the first half against Bayern Munich.

In the first half, there was a moment when Antonio Nusa surged into the Bayern box, but was fouled by Josip Stanisic. However, neither a foul nor a penalty would be given, despite consultation with VAR.

On the non-penalty call, Werner said:

“It’s absolutely insane that not even a foul was called. For me it was a penalty. The contact was on the line. You need certain decisions to go your way to have a chance here, we didn’t have these moments today – it was a deserved win for Bayern”

Would the penalty have made a difference for Leipzig?

Considering Leipzig ended up losing 2-0, it is unlikely. However, if the decision was given, it could of completelty changed the momentum of the game.

Leipzig also had a goal disallowed right at the beginning of the game when Christoph Baumgartner’s strike was ruled out for offside.

Harry Kane opened the scoring, before minutes later, Luis Diaz would make it 2-0 to kill off the game and send Bayern into the DFB-Pokal semi-finals for the first time in six years.
