According to a report by TEAMtalk, Marc Cucurella is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a left-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Chelsea wide player has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana.
However, Chelsea will attempt to keep Cucurella beyond the summer transfer window by tying him to a new contract. Talks between the two parties will begin soon, and the Blues have a decent chance of retaining the Spaniard’s services, as he has no interest in departing from Stamford Bridge and rejoining Barcelona.
Marc Cucurella has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League since joining Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth up to £63 million in August 2022. The 27-year-old arrived at the West London club amid hype and fanfare surrounding him after an exceptional debut season in the Premier League ended with Brighton’s Player of the Year award.
However, Cucurella was slow off the blocks at the West London club, as he struggled to make his mark in his first 18 months at Stamford Bridge. That changed since midway through his second campaign with Chelsea. The Spanish international has made nearly 150 appearances thus far for Chelsea while chipping in with nine goals and 12 assists. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.
Marc Cucurella has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, even though Hansi Flick has two left-backs in his squad. However, Alejandro Garnacho has not been consistent enough in the last 12 months, compelling Barcelona to scour the market for a left-back.
Several candidates have thus emerged on Barcelona’s wishlist, with Cucurella also a viable target. However, the Blaugrana may face stiff competition for the 27-year-old Spaniard’s signature, as widespread reports have also linked him with Atletico Madrid.
Additionally, Chelsea will not entertain bids to part ways with Cucurella in the summer transfer window. The Blues are also ready to begin talks with the Spanish full-back’s entourage to tie him to a new contract. Meanwhile, Cucurella has no interest in leaving Chelsea, and Barcelona must look elsewhere for a new left-back.
