There were doubts about the fitness of Ousmane Dembélé (28) heading into Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League play-off against AS Monaco on Tuesday.
Despite those doubts, the Ballon d’Or winner started against the Principality club. However, he could be seen looking towards the bench throughout the night, and by the 27th minute, he had had enough. Dembélé was withdrawn, replaced by Désiré Doué, who would ultimately prove the difference-maker. The former Stade Rennais forward netted a brace coming off the bench, as PSG came from two goals down to win 3-2.
Naturally, given his injury history this season, there is concern surrounding Dembélé. “We know the physical aspect of every player. He trained normally. We will have to see if there is an injury, but we are looking to manage it as best as possible,” said Luis Enrique in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
Dembélé passed through the mixed zone on the way to the team bus but did not show any obvious signs of discomfort. PSG will hope to have their forward fit to face Monaco in the return leg of their UCL play-off, at the Parc des Princes, next week.
