Liam Rosenior wants to block Trevoh Chalobah sale amid Aston Villa links

Liam Rosenior wants Chelsea to keep hold of Trevoh Chalobah beyond the summer amid heavy interest from Aston Villa.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea could block approaches coming in for Trevoh Chalobah, with Liam Rosenior of the opinion to keep the defender. Chalobah has been a key player for the Blues this season, as the current manager believes he could grow in stature even further.

Trevoh Chalobah has not had an easy ride since coming through the academy at Chelsea, with speculation still rife about his future. Take the last 18 months as an example, with the Blues first offloading him to Crystal Palace on loan, then recalling him midway through last season, while being open to offers back in the summer.

The serious injury to Levi Colwill might have played a huge role in Chelsea deciding to keep Chalobah, as they had been eager to make a sale that would net them pure profit for the homegrown star. However, ahead of next summer, the speculation has come alive once again, as Aston Villa are interested. Meanwhile, the Blues have been looking at new defenders, including Nottingham Forest’s Murillo, among others.

Aston Villa are always looking out for opportunities with other clubs to mutually help with the PSR regulations. Meaning, the club have done deals in the past that have helped them and the selling or buying club, and they might have an idea to get Chalobah in the same way.

Aston Villa do need a new defender for their side, and at the moment, Chalobah has been one of the consistent performers in the Premier League. Should the 26-year-old Chelsea utility man be made available for a reasonable price, the Villans, alongside other teams, will be interested in a move.

Chalobah to leave Chelsea?

Current Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior thinks that the club should block all approaches coming in for Chalobah. The English manager wants to keep hold of the 26-year-old Chelsea utility man for as long as possible, with the club likely to oblige to the request.

Chelsea might still sign a new defender, and with Colwill also set to return for the new campaign, Chalobah might not have it as easy as this season. He may have to fight for his place, as the decision over his future might also be in his hands, as the defender might choose to stay or leave for a new club where he has an important role, which might still keep Aston Villa in the hunt despite Chelsea’s reported stance currently.
