Real Madrid and Tottenham keen on Edmond Tapsoba

Real Madrid and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Edmond Tapsoba, with the defender likely to assess his options.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are considering a move for experienced Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba ahead of the summer. Tottenham are also keen on the 27-year-old Bundesliga defensive powerhouse, with the Burkina Faso star likely to consider his options in the close season.

Central defenders will be in high demand during the summer window, as a host of big teams are likely to dip into the market for one. Real Madrid are certainly planning to strengthen their backline with new centre-backs, as the futures of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba have come under considerable doubt.

The two experienced stars are out of contract at the Bernabeu and could be let go. Meanwhile, Florentino Perez had plans to lure at least one high-profile free agent, such as Dayot Upamecano, Marc Guehi or Ibrahima Konate. However, it appears they might sign none of those names for various reasons.

Now, they are looking in the market for different options and have turned their attention to Burkina Faso international Edmond Tapsoba. The experienced defender has been on the European scene for some time and has been prominent during his spell at Bayer Leverkusen, where he was instrumental in the title win a couple of seasons ago.

Tapsoba could evaluate his future at Leverkusen, which may see him anticipate approaches from interested parties. Real Madrid would be a dream move, as is the case with most players, but there are other factors, such as Leverkusen’s demands and the role he may have at the Bernabeu.

Tottenham to chase Edmond Tapsoba?

Real Madrid are not alone in the race, as Africa Foot reports that Tottenham are among the clubs keeping close tabs on the 27-year-old. Spurs need a top-class, experienced defender to marshal their backline, and the Burkina Faso international could be the right fit.

Tottenham are currently experiencing a difficult season in the league and may not be in the Champions League next season. It remains to be seen whether that plays a part in the race for the Leverkusen star, as he will certainly have interest from clubs that are set to play in the Champions League next season.
