La Liga giants Real Madrid have launched an official investigation, after a member of the club’s fanbase was caught on camera making an alleged Nazi salute.
Real were of course back in action on the continent on Wednesday, locking horns with Portuguese outfit Benfica in the Champions League playoffs.
When all was said and done, Los Blancos emerged on the right side of a 3-1 aggregate scoreline, to book their spot in the competition’s Last-16.
As alluded to above, though, in the game’s aftermath, the powers that be in Spain’s capital have been forced to investigate a disgusting accusation against a member of their own fanbase.
The act in question came ahead of kick-off last night, and saw a well-known supporter make an alleged Nazi salute towards the TV cameras at the Santiago Bernabéu.
As per a report from the BBC:
‘In a statement, the Spanish club said they have asked its disciplinary committee “to initiate an immediate expulsion procedure” for the fan.
“Real Madrid condemns this type of gesture and expression that incites violence and hatred in sports and society”.’
A further update is expected over the days ahead.
