OL’s Pavel Šulc and Afonso Moreira to miss clash against Marseille

Pavel Šulc and Afonso Moreira will not be available for Sunday’s trip to Olympique de Marseille, Paulo Fonseca announced at a press conference.

Their participation in the French Cup quarter-final against RC Lens next Thursday has also been ruled out. “We’ll see about Pavel (regarding how long he’ll be out). For the next two matches, against Marseille and Lens, it seems impossible, just like for Afonso,” said the Olympique Lyonnais coach.

After suffering a thigh injury during Sunday’s match against RC Strasbourg Alsace (3-1 defeat), Šulc had to be substituted before half-time. Moreira, who has been sidelined for three weeks, was also deemed unfit to play.

Another two blows for OL, who have already been without Malick Fofana and Ernest Nuamah for several months.

“That’s how it is, and this problem with our forwards has been going on for a while. It’s difficult with four players injured, but we have to make do with what we have. I think it’s easier to replace defensive players. Naturally, it’s worrying because we don’t have many options,” lamented Fonseca. “These are players who contribute defensively and provide depth, which is what we lacked on Sunday in Strasbourg.”
