Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director on captain Rocco Reitz: “It is very, very unlikely that Rocco will still be with us next year.”

At the club’s pre-match press conference, Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Rouven Schröder addressed the future of Rocco Reitz.

In the past few weeks, the club’s captain has been linked with a move away in the summer, with reports suggesting that a move within the Bundesliga is ramping up.

On the situation surrounding Reitz, Schröder said:

“If there has been an agreement, it’s between the player and his potential new club. It’s been a long-standing issue that Rocco is in high demand. And there’s certainly a club that has made a much more concrete effort to sign him and naturally wants him for next year.”

Later adding:

“It is very, very unlikely that Rocco will still be with us next year. But people can be sure that we will do our utmost to do a good job for Borussia.”

Gladbach likely to lose Reitz to RB Leipzig:

RB Leipzig are said to have reached an agreement with the player over a move, and it is now down to the clubs to agree on a fee. Reitz is said to have a release clause worth around €25m, but Leipzig does not wish to pay that fee, so it will look to negotiate it down.

If he does decide to move to the Red Bull Arena, Reitz is seen as a replacement for both Xaver Schlager, who will leave at the end of his contract, and Kevin Kampl, who retired earlier this season.

Considering Gladbach are in the midst of a relegation battle, to allow a move away from your boyhood club, to a team with as poor a reputation as Leipzig, will likely not go down well at Borussia Park.
