Manchester United uninterested in u-turn on Casemiro future

Manchester United will not offer a new deal to Casemiro, even though the 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder has been exceptional in recent weeks.

According to a report by BBC Sport, Casemiro has no future at Manchester United despite being one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in recent weeks. The Red Devils have “no plans to reverse their decision to release [the] veteran midfielder” after the 2025/26 season.

Casemiro and his time at Manchester United so far

Casemiro has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70 million, including add-ons, in August 2022. The experienced South American midfielder hit the ground running at Old Trafford, and he was a pivotal figure in a memorable 2022/23 campaign that yielded the EFL Cup and a top-four finish.

However, after that, the 34-year-old struggled to remain consistent in the middle of the park, and he started showing signs of age catching up with him. Fortunately for the veteran midfielder, things improved under Ruben Amorim, who preferred pairing the former Real Madrid midfielder, who shed a lot of weight and became significantly fitter, with Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.

The Brazilian midfielder has made over 150 appearances for Manchester United thus far, scoring 24 goals and providing 14 assists. However, the former Real Madrid midfielder’s long-term future at Manchester United is non-existent, as the Red Devils have confirmed his impending departure as a free agent after his £18.2 million-a-year contract expires on June 30.

What next?

With his Manchester United contract expiring in a few months, a new adventure is on the cards for Casemiro. Recent reports have linked him with AC Milan, while the veteran midfielder has been a target for Saudi Pro League and MLS clubs in the last 12 months.

However, unless the former Real Madrid midfielder takes a significant pay cut on his current £18.2 million-a-year wages, his options will reduce significantly. Meanwhile, the player’s sensational performances since the announcement of his departure have compelled Manchester United fans to call for him to stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer transfer window.

Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, and Leny Yoro have also urged the 34-year-old Brazilian international to remain at Old Trafford despite the announcement of his impending exit. However, Manchester United will not reverse the decision, as they have “no plans to reverse their decision to release [the] veteran midfielder” after the 2025/26 season. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
