‘We don’t have to put up with that’ – Lens’ manager reacts to reports of PSG match postponement

Since Paris Saint-Germain’s progression in the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Chelsea, there have been questions surrounding their game against RC Lens in mid-April.

PSG’s game against Lens is scheduled to take place on 11th April. It is sandwiched between the two legs of Les Parisiens’ UCL quarter-final against Liverpool. Earlier this month, PSG’s game against FC Nantes, sandwiched between the two legs against Chelsea, was postponed until late April, in order to allow Luis Enrique’s side to better prepare the encounter.

Pierre Sage has previously voiced opposition to his side’s game being postponed, but earlier this week, RMC Sport reported that Lens were “not totally closed” to the idea. Sage, in the wake of Lens’ 5-1 win over SCO Angers on Friday night, has once again voiced his strong opposition to any postponement.

“We don’t agree (with a postponement). There is only one date and we don’t have to put up with that. We played a Coupe de France match on a Thursday and had to play against Metz on Sunday. I understand that having more rest allows you to perform better, but it is a club that is performing well, who are in a lot of competitions, so they know the constraints,” said Sage.

The win over Angers allowed Lens to provisionally take top spot off PSG, who have two games in hand. Win both and their lead will stand at five points.
