Diego Simeone pushing Atletico Madrid to sign Gabriel Jesus

Atletico Madrid could prepare a move for Gabriel Jesus in the summer as his time at Arsenal could come to an end following the current season.

According to Fichajes, Diego Simeone is keen to land Gabriel Jesus in the summer as the Argentine coach eyes an attacking revamp of his team. Atletico Madrid are losing Antoine Griezmann and could sell Alexander Sorloth, which leaves spaces in the frontline that need replacing, as the Arsenal forward is deemed a viable target ahead of the summer.

Atletico Madrid are preparing for a summer of changes to their front line as Diego Simeone could potentially lose two of his key attackers. Antoine Griezmann has already agreed a move to sign for Orlando City in the MLS, while Alexander Sorloth could depart as part of a revamp of sorts, while Julian Alvarez’s future is also thrown into considerable doubt.

The latter is of interest to Arsenal, who were reportedly considering using Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli in a deal to convince Atletico Madrid to part ways with the Argentine attacker. As per the new report, Diego Simeone is interested in Jesus as a potential option for his frontline.

Jesus’s creativity and goal-scoring prowess make him an ideal candidate for Atletico Madrid’s system. As per the report, Simeone is trying to pair Jesus with Alvarez rather than replace him, as he views the Brazilian as a solid addition, especially if Sørloth departs in the summer.

Arsenal signed Jesus in a £45 million deal from Manchester City in 2022, and this could be the summer they move on from him. There were suggestions that Jesus could prioritise renewing with the Gunners, but the state of affairs around his game time and other factors squarely point towards an imminent summer exit. Moreover, the Gunners are also chasing a new striker amid links to Christian Kofane, which signals their intent to change things in the frontline.

Why would Arsenal Sanction Jesus’ exit?

Arsenal have a strong forward line, and despite some fitness doubts surrounding the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz, Mikel Arteta has barely used Jesus during key games. The dwindling nature of his minutes on the pitch and the many fitness concerns over the last couple of years could see the Gunners decide on the Brazilian attacker’s future, as he may no longer fit into their style.

As for Atletico Madrid, they could sense an opportunity with the Brazilian and look towards him as a market opportunity. With the Brazilian’s contract expiring in 2027, the upcoming summer window could see the attacker leave for a reasonable price, which will suit Simeone’s cause.
