Barcelona line up €50 million move for Julian Alvarez, bid will be rejected

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona are reportedly gearing up to make a €50 million offer for Atletico Madrid attacking mainstay Julian Alvarez.

Despite their financial struggles, Barcelona will certainly look to reinforce their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. With Robert Lewandowski in the final phase of his career, signing an ideal replacement will be a top priority for them.

Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez is a top target for the Catalan giants, and according to a report from Fichajes, they are willing to fork out €50 million for the Argentine international and are ready to offer first-team players as part of the deal. However, Diego Simeone’s men are unlikely to entertain such a low-ball offer.

Alvarez has quickly established himself as the leader of the Atletico Madrid attack since joining them from Manchester City in the summer of 2024. He had an impressive debut campaign and has backed it up with another solid season.

In his 44 outings this term, the 26-year-old forward has 26 goal contributions (17 goals, 9 assists). He has been the go-to man for Simeone in the final third and is considered a very important part of their long-term plans. With a contract that runs until 2030 and a release clause worth €500 million, Atletico have no intentions of negotiating his departure unless there is a crazy offer on the table.

Barcelona prepare an offer for Alvarez

Barcelona are aware of the Madrid-based club’s stance. However, they are still willing to try their luck to sign a player who has been on their radar since his days at City. Lewandowski could pen an extension, but he is no longer a regular starter, and Fick certainly needs a proven goal scorer to lead his attack.

Alavrez is a perfect fit for the style of football the Catalan giants play, and his versatility could do wonders for them. However, securing his services is not that easy. They are preparing a player plus cash deal to tempt Atletico.

While they are very keen on his signature, Joan Laporta is clear that financial stability won’t be compromised. As a result, the financial offer won’t exceed the €50 million mark. The offer is way below Atletico’s demands.

They will certainly turn it down, as they believe it doesn’t reflect Alvarez’s true value. They believe any negotiation should start from figures close to €100 million. While including players does reduce the financial cost, Atletico are not keen on such a deal.
