Andrew Robertson is set to leave Liverpool, and Tottenham are in the driving seat for the experienced defender. As per The Athletic, Spurs are leading the race for the Scottish captain, subject to avoiding relegation.
There’s an air of change at Liverpool following a dreadful season on all fronts, and the fact that some of their old guard are leaving the club. The club announced that Andrew Robertson will depart at the end of the season when his contract expires, and now Spurs are leading the race.
Tottenham were in the mix for a shock move in January when they sought defensive reinforcements, with the player ready to make the move back then. However, Liverpool decided to keep hold of the experienced defender as they were dealing with their own set of defensive injuries, although the north Londoners have maintained an interest.
Heading into the summer and the fact that Robertson will be a free agent, Spurs are now leading the race for the Scotland international. There are other clubs in the mix, including a few from Italy, but it might be the case that Robertson decides to continue his career in the Premier League.
He was also hesitant to rejoin Celtic amid interest from the Scottish giants, as he might be headed to Tottenham once his Liverpool contract expires. In him, Spurs are likely to sign an experienced player who could still play a major role and add depth to the left-back position.
At the moment, Tottenham are very much in the lead for Robertson, although the move will be subject to the club avoiding relegation. Spurs are currently battling to stay alive in the top flight after a dreadful season by all accounts.
The appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager does bring about a sense of optimism in the remaining games this season. However, only time will tell if they can survive this ordeal, as their status as a top-flight side will dictate their workings in the transfer market, as well as test their ability to sign players like Robertson.
