Liverpool, Manchester United dealt blow in Yan Diomande pursuit

Liverpool and Manchester United will have to wait longer before understanding whether they can sign Yan Diomande.

Yan Diomande is a man in demand ahead of the summer, as multiple clubs are chasing the signature of the Ivorian winger. The attacker has had a productive season with RB Leipzig, registering 13 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, and his profile suits what some Premier League sides are seeking ahead of the summer.

Liverpool have been mentioned as a major suitor, with recent reports suggesting they have opened talks of some capacity for the winger. The potential exit of Mohamed Salah, as well as the need to add wide attackers, has brought the Merseysiders towards the Ivorian, who could cost €100 million or more in the upcoming window.

Arsenal are also monitoring his situation, although they are not seen as a frontrunner at this moment. The same cannot be said about Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen to add the Ivorian to their progressive attacking setup, as new full-time manager Michael Carrick may be interested in bringing the Leipzig star to Old Trafford.

Liverpool and Manchester United both have the financial capacity to meet the €100 million fee that Leipzig are reportedly demanding for Diomande. The player himself would view this as a huge opportunity for career progression, although he remained coy when asked about his future amid strong links with Premier League giants.

Diomande’s comments appeared on Foot Mercato, where he was asked if he would remain at Leipzig next season, to which he responded with a simple “yes.” However, he elaborated further and pushed away any speculation about his future until after the World Cup.

Diomande said: “Next up is the World Cup. After that, you never know what might happen.

I’m under contract in Leipzig, and I enjoy playing here. But after that, nobody knows what will happen. Everyone has ambitions, including me. My dream is to play at the highest level possible.”

Diomande could be an interesting signing for either of these English giants, but much will depend on both the player’s and Leipzig’s stance. The German side are eager to keep him for another season, but should a massive offer arrive, things could change.

However, as Diomande stated, no movements are expected until after the World Cup, depending on how far the Ivory Coast progresses in the tournament. For now, there remains a strong possibility of a departure from Leipzig, as Liverpool and Manchester United are expected to keep close tabs on the winger’s situation.
