Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is keen on joining Liverpool, amidst interest from Italian giants AC Milan.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Andoni Iraola wants the Liverpool job as he is waiting to take on a new challenge after deciding to part ways with Bournemouth this summer. While AC Milan are keen on his signature, talks with the Spanish manager haven’t gone according to plan.
They haven’t made any progress in talks with the 43-year-old, who seems to have his heart set on a move to the Merseyside club. While Arne Slot’s contract at Liverpool runs until the summer of 2027, the Dutch manager is under extreme pressure after a disappointing second season. The club could end up sacking him in the near future, opening a window of opportunity for Iraola.
After proving himself at Rayo Vallecano, the Spanish manager took charge of Bournemouth in the summer of 2023. He has completely transformed them over the last three years. Not only are they playing an attacking and attractive brand of football, but are also regularly competing for a European spot.
They have finished sixth in the recently concluded season and have managed to secure Europa League football for the first time in their history. While the Cherries were keen to have him around for years to come, Iraola is seeking a new challenge at a bigger club.
AC Milan have emerged as a potential destination. Having sacked Massimiliano Allegri, the Italian giants are looking for a new manager, and they consider Iraola an ideal fit because of his ideas, managerial style and track record in England. However, they haven’t made any progress yet.
The 43-year-old doesn’t seem too keen on making the move to Italy; instead, he wants to take up the Liverpool job. The Reds are interested in his services, but for now, they continue to publicly back Arne Slot.
However, things seem to be slowly getting out of hand at Liverpool, as the players don’t seem to have the Dutch manager’s back. It will be interesting to see what decision the hierarchy makes regarding his future. If they do end up sacking him, they have a proven Premier League manager to take his place.
Iraola took on a mid-table club and successfully transformed them, which suggests he could take up a star-studded Liverpool team and help them fulfil their lofty ambitions.
