Filipe Luis signs Monaco contract remotely

Filipe Luis has signed his contract to become manager of AS Monaco, L’Équipe understands, although the Brazilian has yet to arrive in the Principality and is not expected to do so imminently.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday that Monaco were set to appoint Filipe Luis as the club’s new manager. Things moved quickly prior to that, with Nice-Matin reporting that Sébastien Pocognoli was set to depart on Wednesday night. The Belgian’s exit has not yet been confirmed, although L’Équipe report that he has now been informed of the decision by the club’s hierarchy.

Talks between Filipe Luis and Monaco advanced quickly on Wednesday night, with an agreement found on a two-year deal. It means that Monaco beat Bayer Leverkusen and Besiktas to the signing of the former Atletico Madrid defender.

The contract was signed but not in Monaco. Filipe Luis’ arrival on the Cote d’Azur is not expected imminently, with the squad either on holiday or preparing for the FIFA World Cup. The return for first-team training is scheduled for 6th July.
