Milan to Appoint Former Manchester United Coach Amorim

Milan will ultimately go with Ruben Amorim, ending their lengthy coaching search. The parties have reached an agreement on a two-year contract with an option. He’ll make €3M per year plus bonuses, Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto report (via SOSFanta).

The Rossoneri initially focused on Andoni Iraola, who ultimately waited for Liverpool, then on bosses with ties to Ralf Rangnick, like Oliver Glasner and Matthias Jaissle. They also pondered Mauricio Pochettino and Arne Slot along the way.

After finalizing the deal with Amorim, Milan will look to come to terms with Eintracht Frankfurt to free up directors Markus Krosche and Timmo Hardung. They have accepted the Rossoneri’s offer, but they are under contract for a couple more years. Some sort of compensation could be necessary.

The Portuguese coach will quickly return to the dugout after being fired by the Red Devils in January. He spent 47 games at Old Trafford, totaling 15 wins, 13 draws, and 19 losses. He finished 15th after taking the team over in November 2025. Prior to his English stay, he won the Primeira Liga twice with Sporting CP.

Our Take on Milan Hiring Amorim

The appointment would obviously look a lot better if it weren’t for his spell at Manchester United. We’ll see whether that scarred him for good, or if he can recapture the magic he had conjured up at Sporting CP. It’s a good stylistic fit relative to the club’s tradition. The squad doesn’t actually need a ton of tweaks to suit his tactics. However, the line between ultra-aggressive football and anarchy and confusion is thin. Moreover, it’s baffling to pick a coach and execs who hadn’t worked together since they had a rare chance to do so.
