Official | Roger Ricort named OGC Nice sporting director

OGC Nice have announced that Roger Ricort has taken the sporting director role, previously held by Florian Maurice, who departed at the end of the season.

It has been a long and arduous search for Nice. An agreement had been reached with Grégory Lorenzi, who was then later approached by Olympique de Marseille. The former Stade Brestois sporting director opted to take the job at the Vélodrome, much to the disappointment of Nice, who publicly voiced their criticism.

Maurice’s successor was then expected to be Geoffrey Moncada, who left AC Milan at the end of the season. From the region, he had been working on Le Gym’s transfer window, without his appointment being officialised.

It was then reported on Tuesday that Moncada would ultimately not take the role. Several factors have been cited by L’Équipe and Nice-Matin, including concerns about the ambition and funds available, personal reasons, and a lower salary than initially discussed.

It is therefore Ricort who has been named. He previously occupied the role between 2005 and 2009.
