RC Strasbourg Alsace officially announced the appointment of Hugo Oliveira as their new manager on Sunday.
In their search for a successor to Gary O’Neil – who was poached by Ipswich Town after just six months – the Alsatian club ultimately chose Oliveira over former Celtic player Wilfried Nancy to take charge. Arriving from FC Famalicão, where he had been in charge since December 2024 and had guided the side to fifth place in the Portuguese league last season, Oliveira embodies an attacking and modern style of football, combining possession with high-pressing tactics.
During his nearly two years in the Primeira Liga, the Portuguese manager oversaw a total of 57 matches, winning 24 of them, drawing 16 and losing 17. It has been a successful spell for a man who also served as an assistant coach under Marco Silva – formerly manager of Hull City, Watford and Everton – and who has now signed a three-year contract with RCSA.
