RC Strasbourg Alsace have officially announced the signing of Giovanni Reyna (23) from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The attacking midfielder has signed a five-year contract, running until 2031, with Racing, who are reported to have spent €3m to secure his services.
A US international with 43 caps (10 goals), Reyna began his professional career with Borussia Dortmund, having joined them in 2019 from the New York City FC academy.
Regarded as one of the great prospects in American football, the Sunderland-born player has not yet managed to live up to expectations, having seen his early career marred by a series of injury setbacks that prevented him from performing at his best.
After moving to Gladbach last summer, he had another difficult season, making just 20 appearances ( totalling barely 577 minutes of playing time) and proving decisive on only two occasions (one goal and one assist).
Reyna, who was part of the USMNT squad for last month’s World Cup, played in five matches, finding the net during Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s resounding 4–1 victory over Paraguay.
