La Liga outfit Valencia have on Wednesday announced the identity of the club’s new head coach. The tactician chosen by the Mestalla brass to steady the ship over the weeks and months ahead? Javier Aguirre.
Valencia have of course spent the last week scouring the market for a new manager. After making the call to part ways with Carlos Corberán following a dismal opening to the campaign, new sporting director Braulio Vázquez set his sights firmly on the services of Ernesto Valverde.
The former Barcelona and Athletic Club boss, however, ultimately made the call to knock back Los Che’s advances.
From here, focus turned fully towards securing an agreement with Javier Aguirre, fresh off an impressive World Cup campaign with the Mexico national team.
And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, Braulio Vázquez and co. have officially landed their man. As per a statement across Valencia’s website and social media platforms:
‘Valencia CF have reached an agreement with Javier Aguirre as the new first-team coach. The Mexican coach joins until the end of the current season, and the Club will have an option to extend his contract for an additional year.’
