Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala is reportedly facing another spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle-fibre tear while away on international duty with Germany. According to Sky Germany, the 23-year-old is expected to miss approximately three to four weeks after injuring his right thigh during the warm-up ahead of Thursday evening’s 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.
Musiala had initially been selected in Jürgen Klopp’s starting XI before being forced to withdraw shortly before kick-off. Mainz 05 midfielder Nadiem Amiri subsequently replaced the Bayern attacker and earned his 14th senior international cap. Further examinations conducted on Thursday evening confirmed the muscle-fibre tear. Musiala has now left the German national team camp and will return to Munich for treatment.
Germany have also lost Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz. The 27-year-old was forced off after only 27 minutes in Amsterdam after suffering a muscular strain in his left rear thigh. Eintracht Frankfurt striker Younes Ebnoutalib replaced him. Havertz and Musiala will now both leave the national team camp prematurely.
Klopp has responded by bringing Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Jonathan Burkardt forward from the second section of his 44-man selection. The changes represent another alteration to a Germany squad that had already been adjusted prior to the Netherlands fixture. Bayern youngster Lennart Karl and Barcelona winger Karim Adeyemi swapped places between Klopp’s two groups for workload-management reasons.
Karl will now join the later squad scheduled to face Serbia on October 1 and Greece on October 4, while Adeyemi featured from the start in Amsterdam. Klopp noted following Thursday’s match that the setback was unrelated to Musiala’s previous neurological issues, describing the thigh problem as a comparatively conventional football injury.
