Moussa Niakhaté (30) has been forced to withdraw from the Senegal squad for the current international break, as confirmed by the federation on Thursday evening.
The defender has returned to his club, Olympique Lyonnais, it was confirmed. Niakhaté is a key member of the Lyon team. Despite the club competing on multiple fronts this season, the Senegalese defender is one of the players who is rarely rested. Already this season, he has played eight times in all competitions, including in three UEFA Champions League qualifying games.
Niakhaté has sustained an injury – the nature of which has not been revealed – while away with the Senegal squad. The federation confirmed that he had undergone an MRI in Marseille on Monday. After those tests, it was decided that he would be released from Patrick Vieira’s squad. He is, therefore, absent from Senegal’s game against the Comoros on 4th October. He has already returned to Lyon.
