Senne Lammens is a Manchester United player, the club have officially confirmed. The Belgian keeper ended the debate on the club’s preferred signing between the posts on deadline day, with the stopper signing a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have announced the signing of Senne Lammens, ending a bit of a drag in the background to get the Belgian’s deal in place. The Royal Antwerp star was an ongoing topic of discussion at the club following the dreadful start their other two keepers have made this season.
Ruben Amorim and the club in general are probably tired of the performances of Altay Biyandir and Andre Onana, as they sought a new face between the sticks. Manchester United found an agreement with Royal Antwerp earlier on deadline day in a permanent deal.
David Ornstein reported the deal will cost Manchester United €21.5 million plus add-ons, with no sell-on clause included in the agreement. The asking rate is seen as decent, although there will be some immediate doubts on how the player adapts to the pressure-induced atmosphere at Old Trafford and performs at his best levels.
Upon his announcement as a new Manchester United player, Lammens was delighted to join the club. He said, “I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United; it is a real dream come true. The past few years have been an amazing journey; it’s now ended in an incredible destination, and hopefully the beginning of something special.
“You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years. I cannot wait to get to know my team-mates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff. This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives.”
The early talk on deadline centred around Manchester United’s reported interest in signing Emiliano Martinez. However, they cooled their pursuit of the Argentine to focus on signing Lammens. The deal was done swiftly on Monday, with the keeper set to sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford.
There will be an expectation from fans to see Lammens in goal once club football returns after the international break. Should that be the case, then the 23-year-old will be thrown into the Manchester Derby away from home for his full debut for Manchester United.
