According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Ezri Konsa. The two Premier League bigwigs are eager to bolster their defensive unit by signing a centre-back next year. So, the 28-year-old Aston Villa defensive mainstay has emerged as a target for them.
However, a move will not materialise in any of the two transfer windows next year, as the Villans are uninterested in entertaining any bids to part ways with the Englishman. Additionally, Konsa remains committed to Aston Villa, meaning Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur never stood a chance.
Ezri Konsa has established himself as one of the most underrated centre-backs in the Premier League since joining Aston Villa from Brentford in July 2019. A native of London, the 28-year-old spent his formative years and graduated from the youth division at Charlton Athletic. However, he has risen in prominence at Aston Villa.
The English international has made nearly 250 appearances thus far for Aston Villa while chipping in with ten goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Konsa’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Manchester City’s interest in Ezri Konsa is understandable. While Pep Guardiola has a stacked central defensive unit, John Stones is on the wrong side of 30 and faces an uncertain future at the Etihad. Several candidates, including Lautaro Rivero, have thus emerged on Manchester City’s wishlist, with Konsa also a viable target.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, the interest in the Aston Villa defensive mainstay is surprising. Thomas Frank has a stacked central defensive unit, and the North London club’s roster has up-and-coming prospects like Luka Vuskovic, Ashley Phillips, and Kota Takai in the pipeline. So, it is unclear how the 28-year-old Englishman fits into the scheme of things.
However, Manchester City and Tottenham must look elsewhere for a centre-back, as Aston Villa will not entertain any bids to part ways with Konsa. Additionally, the English international remains committed to the West Midlands club. So, a departure is not on the cards.
