Manchester City confident of agreement with Rodri

Manchester City have opened talks with Rodri over a new contract and are confident of sealing an agreement despite Real Madrid’s threat.

According to Ekrem Konur, Manchester City are confident of keeping hold of key midfielder Rodri and agreeing on a new deal with their star man. Real Madrid are posing a threat amid links with the 29-year-old, as the Premier League giants have now reportedly opened contract talks with the Spaniard.

Rodri is still one of the most important players at Manchester City in the present climate, and more so after a few key departures of senior stars. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker have left, among others, in recent windows, and Pep Guardiola may not want to lose someone like the 29-year-old anytime soon.

Rodri has been instrumental for Manchester City over the years, but missed most of last season with a cruciate injury. Even this term, he has been in and out of the team owing to fitness issues, but that has not deterred his importance in the team, at least in the eyes of Guardiola.

Manchester City are aware of the big interest from Real Madrid in Rodri, with the Spanish giants prepared to pay big to sign him. Sporting director Hugo Viani had already earmarked a new deal for the key midfielder, and the club had planned to open talks with Rodri soon.

It appears Manchester City have opened talks with the midfielder over a new deal and remain confident of finding an agreement with the 29-year-old Real Madrid target. There will be details such as wages and the longevity of the deal will be important factors in this agreement, something the club are optimistic about.

Real Madrid threat in Rodri talks

Real Madrid had eyes on Rodri for some time, and the injury last season may have forced the club to wait to find out more about his fitness. However, there are big challenges for the club to even approach the finances involved in any deal for the 29-year-old may not seem conducive at all times, but the Spanish giants appear to be open to the idea.

However, Manchester City are unwilling to sell the midfielder, and their efforts to hand him a new deal will be a key decision on their part. It remains to be seen how long it takes for both parties to come together over an agreement, which might be soon if things go to plan.
