Mohamed Salah could have parted ways with Liverpool last summer, upon the expiry of his contract. But on the back of a stellar campaign, he ended up signing a new two-year deal. That contract extension did bring an end to all the talk about his future.
However, a dip in form and growing differences with manager Arne Slot once again cast doubt over his long-term future. Matters worsened following an interview in which he suggested he had been “thrown under the bus,” further straining the relationship.
Although he would still have a year remaining on his contract in the summer, Salah is not expected to be at the club next season. According to a report from Winwin, Al-Ittihad have made him a priority target for the summer, as they consider him an ideal replacement for Karim Benzema, who has ended up joining rivals Al-Hilal midway through the 2025/26 season.
Mohamed Salah joined the Merseyside club back in 2017 after reviving his career at AS Roma. The Reds forked out €39 million to sign him, and it will certainly go down as one of the biggest moves in the club’s history. The Egyptian international has done wonders for them, helping them win all major titles.
Despite all his efforts, it seems Mohamed Salah’s time at Anfield is slowly coming to an end. He has often been linked with a move to the Middle East, and it might finally go through next summer.
Al-Ittihad terminated the contract of their biggest star, Karim Benzema, allowing him to join rivals Al-Hilal on a free transfer. While the former Real Madrid star was handed a renewal offer, he was not too pleased with it and found it humiliating to an extent.
As a result, Benzema decided to part ways with the club. Following his departure, the Saudi giants want to bring in an ideal replacement. He could be a marquee signing for the club as well as the league.
Given how things have panned out for him at Liverpool in recent weeks, Al-Ittihad are keeping a close eye on his situation. They are looking to pounce on an opportunity to lure him away from Anfield. While they are yet to reach out to Benzema, they certainly see this as a great opportunity to convince him to move to Saudi Arabia.
