Real Madrid rule out summer move for Rodri

Real Madrid are moving away from links to Manchester City talisman Rodri amid concerns over the former Ballon d’Or winner in the background.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are shutting the door on a potential future move for Rodri amid concerns over multiple things involving the midfielder. Manchester City are yet to find a way to keep the Spaniard for the long haul, and a future decision could be imminent.

Real Madrid have made it no secret that they desire a top-drawer midfielder to take the team forward in their project. Over the last couple of summers, Los Blancos have seen links to multiple top names, although they have not managed to bring in a big name for their midfield in that period.

Last summer, there were persistent links to Martin Zubimendi before he arrived at Arsenal, while Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez remains a top target. There are reports that the club are willing to make an effort to sign the Argentine, which could be one of the main pieces of business in the summer.

The Spanish giants also had one key target on their minds for a long time, among others. Real Madrid were keen on Rodri earlier, as they were keen to exploit his contract situation, which expires in 2027, to try and get a deal in place to sign him from Manchester City.

They have now indicated their willingness to cool the interest in the Manchester City star, with concerns emerging in the background with regards to his form, fitness and long-term feasibility. Unless there’s a drastic change in the background with regards to his price being dropped or improvements in form, Real Madrid are out of the running for the former Ballon d’Or winner.

What will happen with Rodri?

Since arriving at Manchester City in a €70 million deal, Rodri has been one of the most important signings of the Pep Guardiola era. However, the past 18 months have been testing for the midfielder with long-term injuries halting the rhythm he had before, which has caused concerns in the background over his long-term capabilities.

Manchester City are expected to resume talks over a new deal, as they firmly believe in his talents and consider him a key part of their plans. For now, he might have a longer-term future at the Etihad rather than at a club like Real Madrid, with the latter now seemingly out of the running for the €70 million Manchester City star.
