According to a report from The Telegraph, Manchester United have made Sandro Tonali a priority target for the upcoming transfer window. They consider him the best possible option to replace Casemiro. But striking a deal with Newcastle United won’t be easy, and more importantly, they will have to rival Arsenal and Manchester City in the race for his signature.
Tonali, who made a name for himself at AC Milan, made the move to the Premier League in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £55 million. He has only gone from strength to strength. Not only has the player established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.
While Tonali prefers playing in the number six role, he is equally effective as a number eight. The 25-year-old remains one of the first names on Newcastle’s team sheet under Eddie Howe. In the ongoing campaign, he has been involved in 37 matches across competitions and has even contributed towards five goals in over 2,700 minutes of first-team action.
Given how consistent he has been in the Premier League, there is never really a shortage of interest in Sandro Tonali’s services. Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are all keen on his signature. They want to prise him away from Newcastle United ahead of next season.
The Italian international looks very likely to move in the near future, as his agent recently revealed that his client is considering his future. It is a massive boost for a club like Manchester United, who have made him a priority target.
Manchester do have Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton on their wishlist, but with Casemiro set to leave at the end of the season, Sandro Tonali is seen as an ideal replacement for the Brazilian international. Arsenal were linked with him during the winter, so they can certainly return for his signature.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been closely monitoring him and could create problems for United. Newcastle United would look to make a significant profit on Tonali in the case of his potential departure. They would be looking for in excess of £100 million, given how much Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice have cost in the recent past.
