Napoli star Antonio Vergara’s agent plays down talk of new contract

Antonio Vergara’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, has addressed the speculation surrounding the attacker’s future at Napoli, emphasizing that the player’s current priority remains his performance on the pitch.

Vergara has been a key figure for the Partenopei in 2026, with his recent performances drawing significant praise.

Despite this, there has been no movement regarding a contract extension. Giuffredi told Nicolo Schira – relayed by NapoliMagazine: “Vergara’s renewal? We are not talking about it, there is absolutely nothing at the moment. The boy only has to think about playing and giving his best to help Napoli reach the Champions League.”

The agent further clarified the timeline for any potential negotiations, adding: “Then at the appropriate time President De Laurentiis, with whom the relationship is excellent, will eventually think about evaluating what to do, as has always happened in recent years. Now Antonio only has to think about playing and giving his best for the team. The rest doesn’t matter.”

With the player increasingly influential in the side’s quest for European qualification, both the club and his entourage seem content to delay formal talks until a later date.

There has been talk that clubs in England have been interested in the attacker and major bids were rejected. But that was probably just a means of establishing the player’s price-tag, as he only rose to prominence quite recently.
