Speaking ahead of his first home game in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt, head coach Albert Riera has already given Borussia Mönchengladbach a warning of what they can expect on Saturday.
The Spaniard is already proving quite the entertainer and animator when it comes to his press conferences. Just last weekend, when he was asked what he knew of Union Berlin, the coach simply gestured with his arm, several times over, that Berlin only plays route one football.
In his first meeting with the press, the 43-year-old also suggested that his team would jump off a balcony if instructed by him.
One issue for Frankfurt this season is less about jumping off various things from great heights, but rather their inability to keep clean sheets. So far this season, the Eagles have conceded 46 goals – a stat which is only beaten by bottom side FC Heidenheim (47).
Gladbach coach Eugene Polanski explained that his side would look to exploit these weaknesses when the sides meet on Saturday.
Riera’s response to this comment was quite clear:
“He will see a completely different team tomorrow.” He continued: “We will defend much better. We defend through possession, and when we lose the ball, we won’t give them a chance to breathe.”
A win during matchday 22 would put Frankfurt on 31 points. They really need to start making up ground if they’re to get any form of European football next term. Tomorrow would be a great start.
