West Ham United keen on Aaron Escandell

West Ham are competing for Real Oviedo keeper Aaron Escandell ahead of the summer as they continue to eye changes in the position.

According to Fichajes, West Ham United have added another goalkeeper to their list of targets as Real Oviedo’s Aaron Escandell is the latest name. The Hammers could compete with Torino for the 30-year-old goalkeeper’s signature during the summer, with the Londoners still looking to make changes to that position.

West Ham United did make some key signings in the January window that have already changed their fortunes to a certain degree. The Hammers are battling relegation as things stand, and remain in the bottom three as of the most recent matchday, but the new arrivals have given them a fighting chance to survive.

While they were focused on signing attackers, Nuno Espirito Santo also wanted a new keeper in his ranks. The Portuguese coach has been unhappy with the current options, comprising Alphonse Areola, Mads Hermansen and Lukasz Fabianski. There were a few links around the January window, that included Tottenham’s Antonin Kinsky.

Al-Nassr’s bento was also a target, but the Brazilian preferred a switch to Genoa and had no interest in joining West Ham as per multiple reports around his situation then. While the Brazilian did not leave the Saudi side, the Hammers continued to look into the market and also failed to lure Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Now, the Hammers have identified another target ahead of the summer, which might suit their cause irrespective of whether they survive the Premier League. Real Oviedo’s Aaron Escandell is the latest name on their list of goalkeeping targets, with the 30-year-old goalkeeper set to enter the final year of his deal at the Spanish side.

West Ham to move for Aaron Escandell?

Escandell has been instrumental for Real Oviedo this season, although the La Liga side are favourites to suffer relegation as things stand. They would ideally like to keep hold of the 30-year-old goalkeeper, but know that in light of interest from England as well as that from Torino, it would be difficult to convince the stopper to stay put.

West Ham could offer him terms that may prove to be a game-changer for Escandell, which may convince the keeper to move even if the Hammers are relegated. Hence, there’s a big chance that the Londoners might target the experienced stopper in the summer to bolster their keeper ranks for the medium to long-term future.
