Tottenham, Real Madrid vying for Bart Verbruggen

Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid are both keen on acquiring the services of Brighton goalkeeping sensation Bart Verbruggen.

Tottenham are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper amidst uncertainty around Guglielmo Vicario’s future. He seems set for a return to Italy, and Spurs are keen on bringing in an ideal replacement. According to a report from Fichajes, Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen is one of the names on the North London club’s wishlist.

However, they are not the only ones that are keen on his signature. According to Picon, Real Madrid are also interested in his services as they look to prepare for life without Thibaut Courtois. Los Blancos are keeping tabs on him and could knock on the Seagulls’ door this summer.

After making a name for himself while playing for RSC Anderlecht, Verbruggen made the move to Brighton in the summer of 2023, and he hasn’t looked back since. The 23-year-old has established himself as a mainstay at the English club, and his consistent performances have resulted in a lot of interest.

European giants want to sign Verbruggen

The Dutch international is regarded as one of the best young shot-stoppers in the Premier League, and his impressive rise has placed him on the radar of Tottenham as well as Real Madrid.

While Guglielmo Vicario is currently the number one at Spurs, he looks set for a return to Italy, with Juventus leading the race for his signature. Since he has been a bit inconsistent, the North London club won’t mind cashing in on him, as long as they have an ideal replacement lined up.

Tottenham do have a few names on their wishlist, and Verbruggen is a part of it. They are seriously evaluating the potential signing of the 23-year-old. Meanwhile, he is also a part of Real Madrid’s wishlist, who are looking to prepare for the long run.

While Thibaut Courtois is the undisputed number one at the Spanish club, and he will continue to be as long as he desires, Real Madrid feel the Belgian might not be around for long because of his contract situation and a recurring knee injury.

His current deal runs out in 2027, and the 33-year-old is looking to take it one season at a time. However, Los Blancos are looking to prepare for the long run by investing in a young goalkeeper. While they do have Andriy Lunin on their bench, people at the club are not convinced about him being the right man.

As a result, they are looking at potential alternatives, and Brighton’s Verbruggen has emerged as an interesting option. Given the level of interest in his services, the Segullas will struggle to keep hold of him for long.
