Inter Gearing Up to Do Some Business with Liverpool

Inter made a surprise attempt for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones late in the January window, to replace Davide Frattesi or simply add to their squad, but the deal didn’t come together, as Arne Slot wanted to keep him. On the other hand, his contract expires in 2027, and he’s not playing as much as he would like.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri will try again. The Reds’ stance could soften in the summer if he doesn’t re-up his deal. They aren’t getting any younger at the position. Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are far from certain to stay put. The 25-year-old has scored and assisted once in 35 appearances, largely off the bench.

More players could be roped into the talks between Inter and Liverpool. The Scousers tested the waters for Denzel Dumfries, who was on the verge of returning from ankle surgery at the time. He has a €25M release clause each July.

Conversely, the Nerazzurri wanted to sign Giovanni Leoni before the Reds swooped in with a €35M offer. On the other hand, he quickly tore his ACL, missing almost the entire season. The Serie A giants will see whether he might depart, at least on loan.

Per Caught Offside, the Scousers are keen on Alessandro Bastoni, who might want to try an experience abroad at some point. Bayern Munich, Arsenal, PSG, and Real Madrid are all monitoring him.

Our Take on Inter and Liverpool

It’s not easy for Serie A sides to buy regulars from the Premier League, but some unusual situations could help. They are a safe bet to do something noteworthy in the midfield since they have a lot of balls in the air.
