Barcelona might have a star-studded squad, but they are always active in the market, looking for players who can further bolster their squad. The reigning La Liga champions have identified a Croatian generational talent and are keen on prising him away from Tottenham.
According to a report from Sky Sport Deutschland, Hansi Flick’s team have already initiated talks to sign Luka Vuskovic, who is currently on loan at Hamburger SV. The teenage prospect has made quite a name for himself, and the Catalan giants are keen on adding him to their squad.
Luka Vuskovic was a part of the Hajduk Split youth setup back in the day. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team at the start of 2023. He had multiple loan spells away from the club before leaving them for Tottenham last summer.
Spurs were quick to spot his talent, and they didn’t waste anytime in signing him. They went hard and struck a deal with the Croatian outfit. He penned a contract until 2030 before moving to Germany on a season-long loan.
The teenager ended up joining Hamburger SV, and he is certainly making the most out of his spell in the Bundesliga. The Croatian youth international has been involved in 23 matches, he racked up 2,100 minutes and has even bagged four goals.
The 19-year-old has been a rock at the back, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Hamburg are keen on extending his stay at the club. While they do not have any buy options, they would love to re-sign him on another loan deal.
However, that looks unlikely given the competition for his signature. As things stand, Luka Vuskovic will be returning to North London. While Tottenham consider him an integral part of their long-term plans and have no intentions of negotiating his departure, there are clubs that want to try their luck.
Barcelona are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature. Hansi Flick seeks more quality at the back. The German international feels they lack depth, and the club are ready to invest in the 19-year-old, who could help them in the short as well as the long run.
The Catalan giants are yet to replace Inigo Martinez, and with Ronald Araujo struggling for consistency, signing the teenager would certainly make sense. They have already initiated talks with the player’s camp, and it will be interesting to see how things pan out from here.
