Tottenham counting on Luka Vuskovic amid Barcelona links

Tottenham are counting on having Luka Vuskovic in their squad moving forward amid growing interest in the market, especially from Barcelona.

According to Sport, Barcelona are considering an approach for Luka Vuskovic in the summer, with Tottenham counting on having the player next season. The young Croatian defender has impressed during his loan spell with Hamburg and is already attracting significant interest in the market, while Spurs’ finish to the season could make matters clearer.

Luka Vuskovic arrived at Tottenham in a reported €11 million deal from Hajduk Split last summer, and at the time, they thought a loan move would be good for his development. The North Londoners were spot on in their assessment, as the Croat has thoroughly impressed with Hamburg in Germany, and he is already attracting considerable interest.

Bayern Munich were keen earlier, but Spurs had no intention of entertaining interest from any club, as they consider Vuskovic a key part of their plans moving forward. In fact, they are counting on him being part of their squad next season, especially now that they have found themselves in a precarious position in the Premier League.

Barcelona are also keen on signing Luka Vuskovic, and at the moment, the reigning La Liga champions are pushing for a move. The report states that his agent, Pini Zahavi, has opened the door to the idea of a switch to Catalonia, and now there might be a realistic opportunity for the Spanish side to bring one of the top up-and-coming defensive talents through the door.

Tottenham are aware that the defender’s performances in Germany have opened the door to major clubs showing interest. They had been relaxed about his situation, as well as that of fellow defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, but things have changed since they adopted that stance.

Tottenham to sell Luka Vuskovic?

The report states that the 19-year-old Tottenham wonderkid is valued at €40 million, a fee Barcelona are reportedly willing to invest given the Croat’s future potential. However, Spurs are counting on the player staying and being part of their future.

Following the events of the game against Crystal Palace, Tottenham are now considered one of the favourites for relegation. Should they suffer such a fate, there is a strong chance that many of their key first-team stars will look for exits, including Vuskovic, and Barcelona could then have a chance of signing the 19-year-old Tottenham wonderkid for a reduced price compared to what the report suggests.
