Newcastle United rival Tottenham in Robin Risser race

Newcastle United are ready to enter the conversation for RC Lens’ impressive goalkeeper Robin Risser, with Tottenham also keen.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Robin Risser is attracting plenty of attention from the Premier League, with Newcastle United the latest to enter the race. The 21-year-old goalkeeper’s impressive displays for Ligue 1 club RC Lens have brought a few suitors closer, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Robin Risser has made a significant mark in what is turning out to be the goalkeeper’s breakout season in Ligue 1. Having come through the RC Strasbourg academy, he played senior football first with Dijon in the Championnat National and then in Ligue 2 with Red Star FC.

However, RC Lens signed him from RC Strasbourg in the summer, and the 21-year-old has been an instant hit for the Ligue 1 outfit. Risser has conceded only 21 goals in 24 games, keeping nine clean sheets and aiding RC Lens’ unlikely and surprise title push, with the club currently four points behind PSG.

With the performances he has produced, it is no surprise that some prominent clubs are showing strong interest in the 21-year-old. Tottenham are interested in signing Robin Risser, as they are expected to seek a replacement for Guglielmo Vicario. The player is not the only name on their list, with other options also being considered.

Vicario could potentially return to Serie A, with Juventus and Inter Milan keen on signing the Italian international. However, Spurs are not the only team chasing Risser, as Newcastle United are also interested in the stopper. Eddie Howe could seek a new goalkeeper to add competition for places, as well as to replace loanee Aaron Ramsdale.

Newcastle United to chase Robin Risser?

Newcastle United are expected to make signing a goalkeeper one of their priorities in the summer, amid persistent links to James Trafford, which have existed since last summer. The Manchester City shot-stopper has attracted plenty of attention from elsewhere, which may force the Magpies to consider alternative or contingent targets.

Robin Risser could be a smart signing for Newcastle United, considering what they are looking for in the market. The Frenchman combines height, physicality, and command of his box as key attributes, and he could prove an able successor to the impressive Nick Pope.
