Ibrahima Konate mentally closes book on Liverpool spell

Real Madrid have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate; they are no longer keen on Nico Schlotterbeck.

According to a report from Bild, Ibrahima Konate is all set to part ways with Liverpool at the end of the season. The French international has mentally closed the book on his time at Anfield, and it is a massive boost for Real Madrid, who have him as their priority target to bolster their backline.

After making a name for himself at RB Leipzig, Konate made the move to Liverpool in the summer of 2021. He has only gone from strength to strength since and has been one of their mainstays under Arne Slot.

The 26-year-old French centre-back has played a big part in all the success they have had in recent years. While he remains one of the first names on their team sheet under the Dutch manager, his future has been up in the air because of his contract situation.

Ibrahima Konate set to leave Liverpool?

His deal runs out at the end of the season, and despite all their efforts, Liverpool haven’t been able to extend it. The report states Konate has already mentally closed his chapter at Anfield. He is ready to move on and try a new challenge.

With Ibrahima Konate set to be available for free, multiple top clubs are keen on his signature. However, Real Madrid are by far the biggest contender to sign him. With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger’s contracts running out and Eder Militao struggling to stay fit, Los Blancos are desperate to have more quality at the back.

Real Madrid pull out of the race to sign Nico Schlotterbeck

They consider Konate just the perfect fit for their system and their project. The French international is a priority target for the club this summer. While Los Blancos also had their eyes set on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, the Spanish club have withdrawn from the race.

With his contract running out in 2027, his future is also a big talking point. But he is expected to hold talks with the German club’s bosses next week. While his market value is around €55 million, Real Madrid could have signed him for around €40 million. However, they prefer Konate, who is set to be available for free.
