Ahmed Kantari sacked, Nantes to appoint Vahid Halilhodžić as his replacement

FC Nantes have decided to part ways with their manager Ahmed Kantari, according to reports in Ouest France. Vahid Halilhodžić is expected to be appointed as his successor.

Appointed to replace Luis Castro back in December, Kantari had already been under pressure for several days before Les Canaris‘ home defeat to Angers SCO (0-1) last weekend finally sealed his fate. This marked the end of an unsuccessful spell, during which he recorded nine defeats in 12 matches in all competitions.

Halilhodžić, 73, will thus be returning to familiar territory to try to save the club he played for between 1981 and 1986, then coached between 2018 and 2019, from imminent relegation. An extremely difficult task lies ahead, as the Bretons still have to face Paris Saint-Germain, Racing Club de Lens, Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais between now and the end of the season.

Second from bottom in Ligue 1, Nantes currently have only 17 points with nine games left to play, two points behind AJ Auxerre, whose position means they are in the relegation play-off spot.
